How to Search Cases by Name
Use the official Indiana MyCase party search. Enter a business name, or use a last name with at least a first name, middle name, or date of birth. A birth date is used to search but is not displayed. It may be missing in civil and some criminal matters, so adding it can hide a valid match.
- Open MyCase and choose party search.
- Enter the last name and a first name or initial. Use the exact business name for an organization.
- Select Ohio Circuit Court to keep the Ohio County lookup local.
- Add case type, status, or filing dates only when the result list stays broad.
- Compare the case type and filed date before opening the CCS.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last or business name | Text | Yes | Use sounds-like for some spelling variants, or a supported trailing wildcard. |
| First or middle name | Text | Conditional | A party search needs added identifying text with a last name. |
| Court and case type | Selector | No | Choose Ohio Circuit Court and a Rule 8 case type to narrow results. |
| Status and filing dates | Selector and date | No | Open or Closed and a filing range reduce broad results. |
Ohio County MyCase Search Controls
Sounds-like can find some alternate spellings. It should not be combined with a wildcard. The documented wildcard works as a trailing, starts-with tool, not a leading wildcard. These controls help in a small county when a name was spelled in more than one way, but they can still return unrelated people.
MyCase caps results at 1,000 and may display a CAPTCHA. Avoid a statewide name search when Ohio Circuit Court, a date range, or a case type can narrow it. The state warns against treating the portal as a bulk-data source. Search one court matter at a time and verify the match from its number and caption.
How to Search by Case Number
Use the number first when a notice, citation, or order supplies it. A synthetic Ohio County example is 58C01-2608-CM-000123. The parts mean Ohio Circuit Court, filing year and month, criminal misdemeanor, and sequence 123. MyCase may accept the number without hyphens or leading zeroes, but preserve the displayed form when asking the clerk for a record.
Only one case number may be searched at a time. Optional filters include court, case type, Open or Closed status, and filing dates. A transferred matter may have a changed identifier or history, so open the result and read the CCS rather than relying on the number alone.
Ohio County Citation and Cross-References
MyCase also accepts a citation number or cross-reference number in case-number mode. Enter a citation as printed, including letters or punctuation when possible. If it does not appear, narrow the court to Ohio Circuit Court, check the expected filing date, or call the clerk. A citation can exist before court staff enter it in Odyssey.
A cross-reference may be an old case number or agency number. Search only one of the case number, citation number, or cross-reference number at a time. This route is helpful when a transfer paper or older notice does not show the current identifier.
What an Ohio County Case Search Shows
A result separates the case header, public party data, CCS events, and public document links. A docket line that says a motion was filed does not mean the motion image is online. A line saying an order was entered does not supply the full terms unless a public link is present.
| Case Number | The Rule 8 court, date, type, and sequence identifier. |
|---|---|
| Caption and Parties | The public case heading and party information allowed by access rules. |
| Case Type | A code for criminal, civil, family, probate, juvenile, traffic, or another class. |
| Filed Date | The date the case began in the court system. |
| Status | Open or Closed; later administrative entries can follow closure. |
| CCS Events | Dated summaries of filings, hearings, orders, judgments, and other acts. |
Ohio County CCS and Court IDs
Trial Rule 77 makes the CCS the official sequential list of judicial events. The clerk also keeps the case file and Record of Judgments and Orders. Each serves a different role. The CCS is an index-like timeline; the file holds pleadings and related papers; the RJO holds original orders, entries, and judgments.
The official CCS and clerk-duty rule shows that distinction.

This source explains why a case lookup can prove that an order exists without displaying its full text.
The Rule 8 identifier table defines the case-number parts.

The table ties every local lookup to court identifier 58C01 and a case-type code.
County vs Statewide Case Search
Ohio County does not operate a separate public case portal in the reviewed sources. The county's Find My Court Case link directs users to statewide MyCase. Local accuracy still comes from the Ohio County Clerk and official file. Use MyCase for discovery and the clerk for an official copy or current confirmation.
| Statewide Portal | Ohio County Clerk |
|---|---|
| Participating Indiana Odyssey courts, including Ohio Circuit Court | One Ohio County official file held by the clerk |
| Public case header, CCS events, and selected public documents | Official record, public inspection, and copies subject to access rules |
| Best for finding a number or reviewing public events | Best for certification, missing documents, and live verification |
Ohio County Legacy and Court Status
The Indiana Odyssey court list identifies Ohio Circuit Court 58C01 and shows its July 17, 2017 go-live date. It also shows former Ohio Superior Court 58D01 as abolished.

This helps explain why an older event may be converted and why a current search should focus on 58C01. A missing scan does not mean the filing never existed.
If an Ohio County result is missing, remove extra name filters, try the exact case or cross-reference number, check alternate spelling, widen the filing dates, and contact the clerk. For an appeal, use the state appellate search. For a federal matter, use PACER rather than MyCase.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Indiana Rules on Access to Court Records presume access to many court records, but Rule 5 excludes or redacts categories such as juvenile, sealed, expunged, and protected information. A granted expungement may disappear from MyCase. Protection-order searches can omit protected names and identifiers. Attorney portal rights also differ from anonymous public access.
A missing Ohio County case or document link is not proof that no record exists. Ask the clerk whether the matter is restricted, not yet online, converted from a legacy system, or available only at the office. Extra access to an excluded record may require the process allowed by the court-access rules and a court order.
Ohio County Attorney Search Route
MyCase permits an attorney search by attorney number. When it is not known, use the lawyer's last name with first or middle information, then narrow by court or dates. A trailing wildcard can help with the documented name pattern. Common surnames need tight filters so the Ohio County lookup does not mix other Odyssey courts.
An attorney search does not make a confidential case public. An attorney of record with proper Courts Portal access may see material that an anonymous public user cannot. The clerk can state what is open for public inspection and which request process applies.
Ohio County Financial Data Lag
MyCase financial information may be delayed and is not the official ledger. A displayed balance or payment option is not the final amount due. Contact the Ohio County Clerk for current posting, restitution, interest, or payment-arrangement information.
Case-type codes can narrow an Ohio County search. CM marks a criminal misdemeanor, F6 a level-six felony, CT a civil tort, SC small claims, IF an infraction, OV an ordinance violation, and PO a protection order. Family, juvenile, and probate groups have their own Rule 8 codes.
Choose the court before the case type because MyCase options can change with the selected court. Use Open or Closed only when known. A closed case may still receive later entries, so status is a filter, not the full docket.
